HOSA club held its annual blood drive on Dec. 12, in South Houston High School’s mini gym. Out of a total of 180 students that signed up, 165 donated and saved 495 lives. The blood was transferred to CHI Saint Luke’s Hospital to be broken down into plasma, red blood cells and platelets. HOSA, the health Occupations Students of America club, sponsor Karen Kowalik organized the event for students to donate blood and to get involved in the community.

“I had donated here before. It’s always a great feeling saving life’s,” said senior, Julian Paez.

Each student who donated 500 milliliters of blood saved three lives. People donating had to be at least 17 years old and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds before donating.
