South Houston High School announced Patrick McCoy as Teacher of the Year, Kimberly Hicks as New Teacher of the Year, and Marisol Phillips as Paraprofessional of the Year on Apr. 7 during a faculty meeting in the Reinartz room. These teachers were chosen by their fellow coworkers and paraprofessionals by filling in a secret ballot. The honorees were pleased by the unexpected recognition. “I was shocked,” basketball coach McCoy said. “I think there are a lot of deserving teachers. I am very honored to receive this award. I think this is an award for the basketball staff, and I couldn’t have done this without them.”

10th grade English teacher, Kimberly Hicks, felt honored to represent her campus when given the new teacher of the year award. “I am very privileged and humble for receiving this award.” Hicks said.

AP office secretary Marisol Philips said, “I am very honored and humble to have been recognized for para professional of the year. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to both the faculty and staff of SoHo.”
